On my easel....
I thought this was going to be an abstract aspen painting, but when I sat down at the easel I decided that I was not in the mood for an aspen. This is starting out as one of my horizon series abstracts....who knows what will happen on this canvas today. It is a pretty large canvas...so I got my big wide brushes out and started pushing the paint around. I hope to post more tomorrow...have a good weekend. Kay

Triptych
Triptych Commission: Sold
This is a commission piece that I painted, and I had several guidelines. First, it had to be a horizontal piece, only 24 inches high. It could be any length because the designated wall was very large. Secondly, my color scheme was limited, but not limited. My client asked that I use the following colors: Blue, just not purpley blue. Metallic silver, and dash of orange would be fun. No bright blues. No yellow. No sage green. No pink. Taupe, silver, neutrals, black, turquoise, dash of purple, little bit of red, browns, whites, beiges would all be good to use.I revisited this painting because I hope to start another triptych this week. It will be totally different, probably an abstract aspen painting. I won't have any guidelines or limitations on the painting that I will start today. Thanks for checking on my blog...more art to come. Kay

On my easel....
Here is a painting sitting on my easel...It is a contemporary abstract oil painting. I can't remember the size, probably 24" x 24". I have several paintings started at the studio...and here are a few pictures from Sunday.
Blake Wyne styling in his Warrior Dash shirt...he participated a couple of weeks ago and thought it was a blast. I do like the t-shirt, but all I can say about the WD is, "to each his own!" It would not be my idea of a fun time.
After church on Sunday...John and Blake. Two of my favorite guys. Thanks for viewing this blog. I hope to have more paintings to post tomorrow. Maybe I will get one signed and off the easel. Have a good day. Kay

Dallas Arboretum En Plein Air
Greetings, art lovers and friends. Today is Monday...I normally paint en plein air with a small group of artists around the city. I am posting this painting that I did at the Dallas Arboretum last year...over looking White Rock Lake. I won't be joining the group since we have a water leak (found it at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning...all over the hardwood floors!) I will be making sure that a repairman comes to look at the air conditioning system. I will need to call someone for the ceiling that is just about to fall out onto the floor. Domestic chores are a drag, but we have to tend to them. So in honor of the en plein air painting group, I am posting a painting that I did last year. Wishing I was with the group! Have a happy Monday.

48" x 48" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Palette Knife Painting
This painting is completed. I brought it home from the gallery to hang in our den until it dries. Lately our den has been host to wet paintings. It changes things up for sure. Today is Easter. I hope that you have a wonderful day, and spend it with family and friends. Thanks for viewing this blog and the art posted. Kay

Mr. Rooster
Mr. Rooster is finished.
He may need to be re-photographed,
as I am not sure that the colors in this photo are true.
He is drying and will go to a gallery when he can travel.
I started three new paintings yesterday, and got a new commission.
I hope to get to the studio today and make some headway on it all.
Thanks for looking at my art. Kay

Two Plus One
Two Plus One
This little 8" x 8" gallery wrap oil painting sold at a benefit last year. I was looking at it, thinking it might be fun to paint a large still life....I have numerous large paintings on the easel right now, and I am feeling very limited on the smaller canvas. I hope to post some of the contemporary aspens that are almost completed tomorrow. Have a great day and thanks for looking at my art and blog. Kay

Looking At You
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
This colorful rooster is eyeing you! He was one of the roosters that I photographed on the Dallas Chicken Coop Tour last year.....he wasn't this colorful. I got carried away with the color....the violets, blues, crimson, and even some magenta. I used a wide brush on most of him...This fine feathered friend has attitude and will be looking for a new home. He was shipped to a gallery in Santa Fe this morning....very early this morning. Thanks for looking at this blog and my art. Kay

18" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I was looking at my portfolio last night, and came across this contemporary oil painting. There are several characteristics that I like about this abstract. I hope to start a very large abstract in the studio today. I hope to get a full day of painting in without any distractions. Thanks for viewing this blog....Please contact me if you are interested in this painting, or any other paintings posted on my website or blog.

Arizona...Inspiration Galore!!!
Here are a few pictures from the Scottsdale trip that John and I were on....great scenery, wonderful art galleries, and a fun time! A day trip to Sedona was so much fun. I came away from Arizona with many photos, and lots of great memories.
As we were roaming Old Town, it was interesting to see the different architecture of the city.
John loved walking through the cactus garden at The Phoenician. There were many interesting things to look at....including the lizards.
The desert, mountains, cactus, fabulous sunsets....all great subject matter for some new paintings. I can't wait to get back into the studio. I wish I could of painted while I was in Arizona, but there wasn't enough time!
Our day trip to Sedona was a blast...we all took the Pink Jeep Tour....a ride that was better than any roller coaster! Here is our group for the ride... Thanks for viewing my blog, and I hope to post some new paintings tomorrow. Have a great day!

On my Eeasel...
On my easel...I am entering a juried show this week, and need to finish this painting. I worked on the lettering (which you really can't see in this photo), added more detail, lots more color, and worked on the border yesterday. The paint is so wet that I need to let it sit for a while. I also started base coat of paint on a large canvas, but not sure what I will be be painting. Thanks for viewing my blog......have a good day.

Tall Aspens
Contemporary Oil Painting
Tall Aspens/Palette Knife Painting
This painting is traveling to Santa Fe today. It is a 12" x 48" heavy duty gallery wrap canvas.
Kind of chunky, and a different size.....for a long, vertical space. It has thick oils on it, giving it texture. I am thinking about a name for this painting...if you have any suggestions, send them my way. I am painting at the studio all day, making progress on some commissions. Have a great day!

Contemporary Aspen Painting...
This contemporary aspen painting is now hanging in our home...It is too wet to ship or take to a gallery. It is big...40" x 40" gallery wrap canvas. It is on heavy duty stretcher bars, with heavy duty canvas. It looks great in our den. As soon as it dries I will be sending it on. I have not named this painting, so if you have any ideas, please email me...Thanks for viewing this blog.
