Rodeo Cowboy

Rodeo Cowboy
I think this painting is finished....or at least I signed it. I wanted to show the energy, movement and colorful excitement of the rodeo in this painting. It is on a 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas, painted in oils. At the very start of this painting, the horse was standing. I changed the angle of the horse, and decided that it would be more interesting to have it kicking off the canvas. And moving, not standing. I will go back to the studio tomorrow and probably make a few minor changes and photograph it again. I liked the fringed on the chaps and the mane on the horse....seemed to get all tangled up in the ride. I thank you for viewing my blog, and welcome any comments on my latest painting!

Lucky Dog

Lucky Dog---Finished or Unfinished?
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I painted it, signed, brought it home from the studio, and someone in this house did not think it was finished. John asked where the vendor was. Ugh. I took a photo in New Orleans last spring with a chubby little vendor at his hot dog stand. I don't know why I left him out, but now that I am thinking about it, I think he needs to be standing behind the stand preparing his hot dogs. So for now it is finished, but I will put the fellow in when the mood hits me. As for my painting today, I had a great day at the studio. I have been painting a horsey/rodeo painting for the past two days, and I am thinking it is almost completed. Of course, I could sign it, bring it home and discover that it really isn't finished and that it is missing something.

Untitled Landscape

The October Issue of American Art Collector is out! Here is the ad for the Daily Painters of Texas show to be held at The Dutch Art Gallery --- As you can see, I have my Shea Baby painting in the ad. It should be a great show....I will be sending out invitations for the reception soon!!!

Untitled Landscape

Here is another untitled landscape...It is on a 12" x 12" gessoed masonite. I like the size of this painting. I need to give it a name, but it just came off the easel and I haven't had much time to think about it. Yesterday was another rainy day in Dallas...so painting a scene with lots of color and light was fun. Thanks for looking at my blog. I hope to have a very artful Thursday.

Studio Time with Ruby Tuesday

Ruby Tuesday at Studio Art and Soul
I was at the studio yesterday, but did not finish a couple of paintings that are on the easel. I hope to have another productive day painting....So, today's posting is sweet Ruby Tuesday...she belongs to Mark and John, and I got to dog sit her when they went to New Mexico. She is one of a kind, and very fun to have around. She is sitting on Carol's lap at the studio in the above pic.

Untitled Landscape

Untitled Landscape
I have not named this painting. It is oil on 8" x 10" panel. Layers of color. I started this painting as I was finishing up another. I had so much paint on my palette from the finished painting so I start this small painting, and this was the end result. This is a very peaceful painting---pleasant and easy to view. It will probably be for sale in our open studio show in November. Looks really nice in a silver plein air frame. I need to name this piece...if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear from you. Thanks for viewing this blog!!!

Horizon Series: Abstract Squares

Horizon Series: Abstract Squares
9" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

I am back! Just got in late last night from NYC....had a great trip and now I am playing catch-up. I finished this painting just before I left for our trip. We had a good trip, did alot of things, enjoyed the sights and sounds of New York City. We hit alot of galleries, but did not have time to go to museums. I took lots of pics. We were also able to visit some family and John got a day of work in. It was a busy week....and I am ready to get back in the studio and paint. I have missed it. We flew back from Newark yesterday...9/11. Several persons (including our daughter) have asked how it was.....it was fine traveling, and the only problem we encountered was bad weather. We visited Ground Zero on 9/10 and they were getting ready for a memorial service. NYC is amazing....so much energy, so many people, and crazy drivers!

The abstract I am posting has layers and layers of lines, shapes and tumbling squares. You can see the horizon line that I usually paint in my abstracts. The colors are bright and vibrant. I used a brush and palette knife on the canvas. Thanks for visiting my blog.

American Art Collector Ad / Celebration

Here is a full page ad in the September Issue of American Art Collector. The Daily Painters Abstract Gallery is a group of artists blogging and showing abstract art. It is our hope that we will get alot of traffic on our blog and interest in our art, leading to sales. I submitted "Celebration" for the ad.

Celebration
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

This painting was origninally posted on May 7th on my blog. You can read more on this painting if you go back to that date. Mark hung Celebration at the studio yesterday, and it looks great on a white wall. The colors pop. Please visit our studio located in The Cedars of Dallas to see some great art! I will be away from the computer for a week, as John and I will be traveling to Princeton, Ridgefield, CT and New York City!!! I hope to take alot of pictures and get inspired to paint some great paintings when I return. Thanks for looking at my blog!!!

Cupcake Celebration

Cupcake Celebration
4" x 4" gallery wrap canvas
This little canvas would be a perfect birthday gift. It does not require a frame since it is on a gallery wrap canvas. I was working on the Different Strokes from Different Folks painting challenge, and ended up painting two different cupcakes. It was quick and fun. I will post the other cupcake tomorrow.

Still on the easel....

Day 1 of painting.

Day 2 of painting.
As you can see, I have made some progress on this painting. Day 1 was alot of fun, until I realized that I was not able to see any details in the face with the reference photo. Marilyn mailed me a larger photo, and I was able to see what the hands and face were really like. I have a few more details to finish on the hat, and lots of work on the face and skin tones. I want to get the spark of personality Uncle Orville had and put in on the canvas.
I need to work on my cupcake painting, get ready for the Dutch Art Gallery Show, and do a commission piece. But, as we all know, we only paint what we are "in the mood" to paint....
