Oh So Proud - SOLD!
Thanks to owner Pam Massar who sold it to a collector from out of state. Also a big thanks to Mimi....who encouraged me to paint a turkey several months ago, a creature that had not made it to my easel until I was asked to do a commission. I have painted many roosters and chickens, but for some reason, the Tom Turkey had not been attempted. Thanks for viewing my blog...we have returned from a eight day trip to Maine, so I have some ideas and wonderful inspiration for some new paintings! Thanks, Kay

Once In a Blue Moon
Once In a Blue Moon - SOLD!16" x 20" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting
Once in a Blue Moon ... a phrase that we have all heard. This was a topic of conversation in the Wyne house lately....it is a common way of saying not very often, but what exactly is a Blue Moon? It is the second Full Moon to occur in a single calendar month. That occurred last December, when we had a Full Moon on the 2nd and the 31st. According to the experts, there will be 41 months that have two Full Moons in every century, so you could say that once in a Blue Moon actually means once every two-and-a-half years.
Once in a Blue Moon is also a title for lyrics to songs....like the Van Morrison song....
Once in a blue moon
Something good comes along
Once in a blue moon
Everything's not going wrong
When you get weary
Beating on the same old gong
Once in a blue moon
Someone like you comes along
When I started the above painting, I had a collage look going, starting with the words, Once in a Blue Moon painted on the canvas several times. If you look closely you can see them under the layers of paint. You can also see two images of horses, geometric figures and layers of paint along with oil crayons. There is alot of movement in the painting and the eye jumps from one shape to the next shape. This contemporary abstract oil painting is now signed and completed after weeks on the easel. It is on a gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. The collector who now owns this painting lives in Connecticut. Thanks for viewing this blog!

On the easel...
On the easel...another painting that was started, and then left to sit a while.
Here is another painting that is sitting on my easel....unfinished. I need to really focus and add some shadows and detail on this one. I had taken a photo of the Lucky Dog hot dog stand in New Orleans....they were all over the city. This is on a 12" x 12" gallery wrap canvas....so it shouldn't take me too long to finish up. Maybe I will get to the studio this afternoon and tackle it!! Thanks for viewing my blog. Have an artful day!
p.s. Several of my friends have asked about the Cedars Open Studio Tour 2009. Mark your calendar----it will be Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. More information can be found at: www.cedarsopenstudios.com.

Mailboxes
This painting is hanging in my parent's home in Illinois. It is rather large...24" x 36" canvas. It is framed up in a barn-wood frame. It is one of those paintings that kind of makes you stop and look. I painted this a while back, and my inspiration was a line of mailboxes along a country side road. I did not get to work at the studio yesterday, but I am working on a commission piece....mixed - media and hope to wrap that up today. I hope you have a good Monday! Thanks for viewing my blog.
