Several years ago Missy took a fabulous photo of the historical Rock Church.  I started to paint it, and for some reason got bored or distracted.  But today I was jazzed about the painting, went into the studio and finished it.  You can read about the church:  Cranfills Gap The Rock Church.

The chapels in the Cyclades were amazing...and this one was perched on top of rocks on an island directly across from the island of Naxos where our villa was located.  I was told that you boat over to the island, walk up the steps to the chapel from the shoreline.  Special services are held on Easter on this island. Every morning I would wake up to this view---it was amazing.  Thanks to Jim for taking the early morning photo!  Getting the blues right in the sky and water is what I focused on, and then I used a palette knife to put the rugged mountains and rocks.  This painting is drying in the studio...Thanks for looking at my blog.   Contact Kay for more info.  KMW

After posting this small floral, I am thinking that it's not finished.  I was focused on mixing my violets, magentas and greys...and need to work on values and hi-lights.  Some people say that a painting is never completed until it leaves the studio, and the artist doesn't have the opportunity to go back in and paint on it.  Thanks for looking, Kay

The Saguaro cactus grows in Arizona, having a long lifespan of 150 years or more.  I can only think that this one has many years on it.  The arms are massive and very interesting in shape and the way they twist and turn from the trunk. John and I found this large Saguaro in Sabino Canyon in Tucson, Arizona.  I wanted to paint all the different colors of the desert that you see when you are there in person, and using my imagination, added some beautiful violets, corals, greens and greys.  This large Saguaro fills the canvas, giving it a presence on the canvas, just as it does in the desert.  This painting is available for purchase.    Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

I got carried away and a little obsessed with mermaids while in Greece.  I started with a pencil drawing, then worked in ink and then painted with watercolors.  I wanted this to be loose, colorful and whimsical.  I had so much fun with this, and because I did not travel with my oils, I was forced to explore the world of pen, ink and watercolors.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

This ceramic pot was beautiful.  It was spotted by Deb on our recent trip to Greece, sitting in a window sill with lots of warm light hitting the pot and the leaves.  Deb gets the credit spotting it, and taking a photo of it.  I couldn't wait to paint it once I got back into the studio.  Here's my version of the ceramic pot, thanks to Deb for finding it!  More paintings from our trip to Naxos to come.  Thanks for looking...have an artful day!  Kay
