Contemporary Landscape

Just off the easel, this colorful landscape painting is finished!  It is drying, and needs a title.  I thoroughly enjoyed the painting process on this canvas.  I went into the studio, picked up a canvas and just started painting.  I was able to paint it from start to finish in one session, without interruptions.  The clouds have thick painterly brushstrokes, and are moving across the big sky.  In contrast to the airy clouds, the tall grass in the foreground has variation in color and brush strokes.  I did not use any mediums or impasto, so it will take a while to dry.  Thanks for looking at this painting....hopefully I will come up with a title for it soon.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Kay Wyne

This abstract was painted on linen.  The rough and natural color of the fabric shows through where I did not cover with paint, but purposefully let the linen peek through.  I used a palette knife to apply the paint, not wanting to blend or mix my colors too much...to avoid making mud.  The aspens criss-cross across the surface of the linen.  The crisp greens, turquoise, eggplant, and tangerine make the background fresh and interesting.  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks, KMW

My favorite format for painting is a large square canvas that is heavy weight and has texture/tooth on it.  "Anticipation" is just that, and I was able to use the palette knife to move the oils around once I mixed my colors.  The blues are mixed in with the lavenders and greys, and the corals mixed with the pinks and magentas.  The sky is dramatic with the clouds layered color.  There is quiet a bit of texture, as I use impasto to give the paint more body.  I am posting this painting as Day 10 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge with Leslie Saeta.  Be sure to visit her blog and see all the fun art posted each day.  Thanks for looking at "Anticipation", and feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.  Kay

I wanted to take a geometric shape and repeat it through out the painting.  Sometimes you have to look for the Moroccan trellis shape, since I mixed it up with with lost edges and color variations.  For my color palette I choose seafood green, ice blues and greys, dusty lavenders, with touches of pink, tangerine and peach.  I experimented with metallic gold, and there are two layers mixed into the design.  I changed up my brushes so that there was variety in the stores and lines.  This abstract is drying in the studio...and is Day #8 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay for purchasing information.  Thanks, KMW

I painted this floral landscape this week and it is posted for Day 4 in the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.  The paint was applied with the palette knife in one session at the easel.  I worked the thick, wet paint until I was happy with the landscape.  I added some pops of color in the foreground, gradually letting the flowers fade into the background.  I have a beautiful frame to put on this painting...it's drying in the studio.  Contact ME for more information.
