Looking At You

Looking At You
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Bovine Series
I got in a cow mood in the studio this week, and thought it would be fun to paint a Hereford.  I have painted bovine beauties in the past, and it was good to paint this guy for a change.  He's colorful and as he looks straight on to you, he is full of personality.  My brush strokes are loose.  The oils are thick and layered.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be framed up.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!

Contemporary Cow, to be named.

This painting is a 9" x 12" painting of a cow from a ranch in Columbus, Texas. I had taken a photograph of this bovine beauty several years ago, and I was in the mood to paint something different this week. He will look great framed up. If you are interested in this painting, please contact Kay at kay@kwyne.com. He will be moving to a gallery once he is dry. Thanks, Kay

Martin Ranch Cow

Martin Ranch Cow
Oil on 12" x 12" Gallery Wrap Canvas
This lovely cow lives at the Martin Ranch in South Texas, near Columbus. Wait a minute, I think it is the Martin Farm. Anyway, last March the artists at Studio Art and Soul and a few other creative individuals went to John Martin's place (notice I did not say Ranch or Farm because I am not sure what it is.) I took alot of photos of cows. I finally finished this one today. Signed it. It has been in the works for about 6 months....but I got bored with her, and put her away for months. Now she is out!!!!

As my son, Blake was driving the Polaris around in the pasture, I was taking pics of these creatures. This one just stared at me. I have yet to name her, so I am open to any suggestions. My first cow I painted was Elsie, so that name is out. I was thinking about Harriett because she had big, hairy eye brows and eye lashes.

contemporary cow

This painting is still on the easel. Only needs some high lights and a little more work on the eyes. This is one of the good looking cows that roamed the Martin Farm in south Texas. We had an artist's retreat there in March. As you can see, my photograph is on the left, and the 8" x 10" canvas is on the right. Not a great photo, but it gives me a chance to look at the painting. It is always good to stand back and view your art from a distance. It certainly looks better from afar than up close. I can see that I need to hit the nose and forehead with some lighter touches of paint. I also need to put the identification tag on his ear. It is orange and will blend in with his coloring. I don't know why I like cows...I don't know much about them, and I certainly don't get to see them very often since I live in the city. I probably need to name this cow...actually, I don't know if it is a male or female. I was kind of thinking of the name Maude. What do you think? I think she looks like a Maude. Let me know!!
