Plein Air Painting
I'm back home...after a month in Illinois and Michigan. I have been painting, but because of travel and computer issues, I have taken a break from blogging. Here is a plein air painting that I painted from the cottage porch overlooking the lake. It made it back to Dallas, and I hope to frame it. Up North the fourth of July is celebrated big-time...picnics, fireworks, swimming, boating, sailing, and lots of outdoor fun with friends and family. The day after was quiet in comparison, but lovely. I ventured down to the Klingbeil Cottage and painted outdoors. The birch trees were beautiful with Lake Charlevoix in the background. Here is a pic of myself painting en plein aire.

Painting the iconic Cadillacs located outside
Amarillo, Texas turned out to be so much fun!
First go-around with the layout of the cars was too small so I drew
over it with a brush and made them larger than life.
There are layers and layers of paint, applied with a palette knife, brush,
scraper, and various wipe-out tools. Pieces of the red-toned
canvas peak through---giving the painting a variety of
textures. This painting is looking for a new home---contact

Contemporary Cityscape
Inspired by a plein air experience at White Rock Lake, I decided that I would go with a large canvas --- 36" x 48" in the studio. The subject matter was the same, with the Dallas skyline in the background, White Rock Lake and the tall grass on the hill in the foreground. Wide brushstrokes and palette knife work were used to create this cityscape. This painting is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery. Thanks for looking at this blog! KMW
