Wide Open Sky

Wide Open Sky
Sold!
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Landscape Painting
Wide Open Sky is one of those pieces that has a soothing and calming affect
on you when you walk into the the room and see it.  The soft clouds and simple landscape give the viewer a peaceful feeling.  I am thrilled that this painting has a new home, and will be place above the new owner's fireplace.  I can't wait to see photos of Wide Open Sky hanging in it's new home.  Thanks for looking at this blog and my art.  Contact ME to view any of my art.  Kay

Season Of Color

Season Of Color
18" x 18" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
I was looking at this painting yesterday at the studio, liking the color palette used.  I had mixed some beige/salmon colors and some greens that I normally don't use in my paintings.  The blues were mixed from ultra marine, cobalt and radiant turquoise. I was looking at the shapes and saw something new to my eye.  When I painted it, I was going for a contemporary landscape, with trees, river and sky.  Now I see a cityscape...with tall buildings and a road.  I think that is one of the neat things about abstracts-you can see what you want to see in them if you let your imagination go with it. Horison Series: Abstract #25

Horizon Series: Abstract #25
Oil on 12" x 36" Gallery Wrap Canvas
I have five new paintings in progress that are sitting on my easel...all are at a turning point...and I am not sure what I am doing with them. I don't want them to turn into wipers, as I was having "issues" with the green in one of the paintings. I had painted a pastoral scene the day before Thanksgiving, and did the usual Kay Wyne/green takes over the canvas trick. The minute I put green (I am mixing my own green...no green straight out of the tube) on the canvas, green takes over and in my opinion, totally dominates the painting. My struggles with green continues, and it happens to me over and over.
I was not planning on going to the studio yesterday, but I needed a break from putting up the Christmas tree and decorations. I am always in the mood to paint, but I took it slow yesterday because I did not want to mess up the background on a longhorn painting. I don't know when I will painting again...I do know we will be decorated for Christmas by the end of the day. Thanks for viewing this blog.

On the easel.....almost finished!

This painting is on the easel...needs some touches of detail and it will be finished. This painting is going to need a frame...it is on a 24" x 30" canvas. These race horses are in the middle of a tight race. Lots of action, movement and color. After taking a pic of this painting, and posting on the computer I am able to see some "mistakes" or small things that need changing. The background has a problem --- I spent quite a bit of time on it, wanting to making it recede and fuzzy. The jockey's jerseys need some touches of detail, and the horses need some definition on the head. I hope to put this in the upcoming show at Dutch Art Gallery....Who Does She Think She Is?

Old Friends

Old Friends
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
8" x 24"
Palette Knife Painting
Yesterday was a good day. I had a visit from an old friend at the studio. We had not seen each other in about three years, and prior to that it had been about twenty years since we had caught up with each other. It was so good to see him, even though he had experienced some life-changing events and losses. It was a good opportunity to catch-up and visit. Just like in the above painting. These feathered friends are yacking away, having a heart-to-heart conversation. I had painted this last week, and put the finishing touches on it yesterday. The canvas might appear to be out of balance, but it was my intention to have have the roosters focused on each other. Once this painting is dry it will be hanging at The Dutch Art Gallery.
