Sunflowers Hydrangeas and Grapes: A Still Life

Sunflowers, Hydrangeas and Grapes:  A Still Life
40" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This still life is the latest art challenge going on in the studio.  I personally think it is interesting, busy and colorful...and it was fun to paint!  Obviously there is a lot going on, with 8 or 9 vases, 2 candlesticks, sunflowers, hydrangeas, grapes, an orange, leaves, 5 or 6 different fabrics, weeds, greenery, and just a lot of stuff.  The textures are wonderful...silver, ceramic, dried weeds, soft fabric, and I think there was a dead rat in there somewhere.  It was put together by Sharon, and everyone has been asked to paint it...or at least parts of it.
Here's my view of the set-up from my easel.  This painting is drying now.
Thanks for looking at my art posted here...Kay Wyne

Small and Simple - Sold - by Kay Wyne

Small and Simple
Sold
8" x 8" Oi l on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Painting
This painting just sold...it is very simple and the shapes are geometric.  Not a lot of fussiness going on with my brushstrokes.  I had a small floral arrangement that I was looking at, and simplified the arrangement in my mind with a few strokes, put them on the canvas, and left it alone.  Sometimes that is hard to do---the leaving it alone part.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Happy Valentines Day to all!  Kay Wyne

Double Old Fashtioned by Kay Wyne

Double Old Fashioned
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
As an artist, I have many choices when I stand at my easel to paint.  I made some choices when I started with this canvas, but switched gears several times along the way.  I started out placing this canvas horizontally on my easel.  And, I painted a landscape.  I decided it wasn't working for me, so I thought that a vertical still life would work.  But I was using wide brushes, and after several days, made a switch to use a palette knife instead of a brush.  I scrapped the whole painting off, and started all over.
Here is a couple of close-up shots of the flowers.  The shapes overlap, the knife gives the paint texture and interest.  I need to put a title on this painting, let it dry and varnish it.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, KMW

Bunches of Love

Bunches of Love
$245
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
I was painting a large floral, and had mixed up some wonderful colors, and I didn't want to throw them out, so I picked up a small panel and painted Bunches of Love.  The texture on the flowers is evident with the thick paint.  I will frame this little still life painting up!  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, KMW

Looking Forward to Tomorrow by Kay Wyne

Looking Forward to Tomorrow
20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
I just pulled this canvas off my easel in the studio.  It is abstract, colorful and has thick brushstrokes of paint.  I have a new "thing" with this still life series...I put a "halo" in the composition...actually I decided to go with five of them.  I scratch paint off with a tool, then go in and put a color representing a pedal or part of the arrangement falling off.  I have put in two colors for each halo.  There are five halos in this painting.  The floral arrangement is busy and whimsical...giving this piece a fun and happy feel.  The edges of this canvas are painted, so framing is not necessary.  Contact Kay for more information on "Looking Forward to Tomorrow".  Thanks, Kay
