Turkey on my easel....

Turkey. Unfinished. This oil painting has been on my easel for several weeks. I have painted many chickens and roosters, and a turkey was a new challenge. One of my studio partners had some pictures that I borrowed, and I thought this guy was pretty interesting. I have jazzed up the colors. I need to work on his chest and start layering feathers in with the palette knife. The studio is filled with animals these days...more contemporary cows on my easel, and Sharon is painting bears, buffalo, wolves, and dogs non-stop. Thanks for looking at this blog. Have a great day....Kay

Gallery Reception

Here is a picture taken several weeks ago of John and I at an art reception at the Hawkins-Box Gallery located at Royal Lane Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas.  Currently, I have approximately thirty pieces hanging in the gallery.  Thanks to Steve and Martha Box for their work in putting this show together.  Thanks for viewing this blog, and Happy May Day!!!   Kay

Chickens and eggs at Dutch Art Gallery

Here are a few of my paintings at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas. Roosters and chickens seem to be very popular these days, along with nests. The large rooster is 36" x 36" and has a very handsome moulding on him. Thanks for viewing my blog....Kay

Spring is here....

Sure signs of spring are here...livestock in Illinois....grazing cattle. John and I just returned from a week of visiting family in the midwest. I got plenty of new painting material and inspiration.
This angus is named Princess, and owners Scott and Diane Bagley were kind enough to let me visit the farm and take pictures.
When we returned home to Dallas, John's sunflower was in full bloom. When this stalk sprouted up about a month ago, I thought it was a weed. There are 16 blooms on this one stalk, and more buds are ready to pop out. It was nice to come home to such a beautiful site. I am hoping to head to the studio today. Thanks for viewing my blog!
