Zest

Zest
16" x 16" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
I got to the studio yesterday and felt that I
needed to punch-up the color on this
painting.  It needed zest.  So I mixed some reds
and pinks, trying to get the right coral color.
I added some carribean blue, diox purple,
and pulled out a white oil bar.  Done!
This is day 21 for the 30/30 Paint Challenge with Leslie Saeta.
I got on a major cleaning, framing, thowing-out junk kick yesterday,
with a busy October coming up, I need to be organized.
I found about a dozen half-finished (or half-started)
paintings.  Maybe tomorrow's post will be
one of those that I found.  Thanks for looking
at my art....Kay

Horizon Series: Abstract #1027

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027
Oil on 22" x 30" Gallery Wrap Canvas

This abstract went through alot of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a dark piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This contemporary abstract is on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. It is ready to hang! Thanks so much for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Have a great day! Kay

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027
Oil on 22" x 30" Gallery Wrap Canvas
When I started this painting, I was thinking of painting abstract circles...but after one day of painting, I changed my mind and went in another direction. After day one, the canvas composition changed...and I put a horizon line it in, and took out the circles. It was too complicated, so I painted out everything. I also changed my color palette. Some of the colors were random, like the cad yellow and paynes gray. I wasn't happy with the color combination. I put down the brush and picked up the palette knife. The layers of paint went on...I have not signed this painting, but it could be finished. I am taking a few days to let it sit before I sign it.
This contemporary abstract is on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. It is ready to hang once I sign and make a few minor changes.

I did not get to paint yesterday...but had a good day walking the barns and fields of Canton, Texas at First Monday Trade Days. It was great weather, good shopping. After all the crummy wet weather we have had, it was nice to be out in the sunshine. Looks like another great sunny day in Dallas. I can't beleive it is November!!!

Santa Monica on the Easel

It's still on the easel, but I think it is completed. Thanks to Russell Newman for the photograph. This beach scene is on a 6" x 12" gallery wrap canvas. I hope to finish up my New Orleans painting and Different Strokes From Different Folks painting challenge today. I am headed to the studio for a day of painting. I hope that you have an artful day!!!
