Welcome - NFS

Welcome
12" x 12" Oil on Panel
This painting was a gift to a friend, so I know that "Welcome" has a lovely home.  I remember painting this little panel with Dreama Tolle Perry in one of her workshops several years ago.  It was a fun and informative workshop.  One of the best things that I took away from the workshop was her color palette, her use of transparent and opaques, and the joy of painting process.  If you have an opportunity, visit her website and blog.  I have two new paintings on the easel at the studio...I hope to have a very productive day!  Thanks, KMW

General Store

This oil painting is of the Horton Bay General Store....located on the Charlevoix-Boyne City Road in the little tiny village of Horton Bay. Horton Bay, Michigan was the inspiration for Ernest Hemingway's earliest published stories. I don't think much has changed in this town since the days of Hemingway. This cool general store was built in 1876, and it is so much fun to stop in and enjoy a coke and look at all the memoribilia and photos. If you have not been "Up North" you might need to get a map out and locate the village of Horton Bay. It is close to Charlevoix. This painting was painted with many summer memories for me. I just love the old porch, flower boxes, red roof, and of course the location of this old building.
