Georgie Boy

Georgie Boy
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This is yesterday's painting demo at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas for a group of lovely women from Rockwall, Texas.  We had George, the rooster there live from our neighbors at Gecko Hardware Store in Lake Highlands come down and do some modeling.  He was really good for 90 minute session.  I photographed this while it was very wet, so there is a little glare on it.  This paint is very thick!  But because I used impasto, it will dry fast.  It is on a gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is necessary.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Kay

Joyful

Joyful
18" x 24" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
(Ready to hang, framing is optional!)
Contemporary Still Life Painting
I completed this floral still life several weeks ago.  I wanted to use soft whites, corals, grey-blues, dusty lavenders, and some greens.  My inspiration for this painting was a small but beautiful floral arrangement that was sent to my daughter, Lindsay for college graduation.  Although it has been several years since graduation, the bouquet was worth photographing and using as a reference for painting in the studio.  The arrangement was so fresh and joyful....therefore, the title, "Joyful".  Thanks for looking at my this contemporary floral painting.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Have a joyful day!  Kay

This Friday I will be doing a Palette Knife Demo with George as my model at Dutch Art Gallery.  George is is going to be my model!  He is a beautiful Rooster who lives at Gecko Hardware Store, located in our neighborhood, just a few doors down from the gallery.  In this photo George is critiquing one of my paintings.  I visited George yesterday, and took some pictures of him.

The Little One

The Little One
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This little panting was fun to paint---all with the palette knife.  I usually don't paint on dark canvas, but I did this time so that the rooster would pop.  This small panel would look great on an easel for display.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  The Little One is for sale.  Thanks, Kay

Flutter
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Today's post is a canvas that I painted several months ago, and it is finally dry.  This dragonfly is abstract and colorful.  I love painting with the palette knife---pushing the paint around, scraping and building the layers up.  I am getting ready to do a palette knife demo this week, so that will be fun.  I have been working on projects in the studio, but don't have a new one to post today.  Thanks for looking....contact Kay for comments or questions.  Thanks, Kay

Bold Day

Bold Day
48" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting is currently hanging at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  Contemporary abstract landscape with palette knife work is a good description of this painting.  This palette knife painting has layers of oil paint on the canvas.  When I stand in front of this painting I want to run my fingers all over it, feeling the surface of the canvas as it changes with the landscape...from smooth to rough, thin layers of paint to thick.  This is my post for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge...I did not paint it this week, but since I am working on a commission in the studio, needed to post a landscape for the challenge.  Thanks for viewing...Kay

Day #13 in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge
This painting has is bold and colorful.  The sky has a warm glow and the it is bouncing off the vibrant florals in the foreground.  I want the view to feel like they are standing in a tall, thick pasture of wildflowers looking at the sunset.  Thanks for looking at this blog....contact ME for more information on this painting.  Thanks, Kay

Beyond

Beyond
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Landscape
This landscape is very abstract.  Patches of color and shapes.  The path wanders through out the painting, into the hills.  I mixed and mixed the oil colors...I had loads of paint out on the palette for this small panel.  This is day 12 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge...I am working on a commission along with this landscape series.  More painting in the studio today.  Thanks, Kay

Kaleidoscope Landscape

Kaleidoscope Landscape
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Floral Landscape
As I continue exploring the floral landscape series, I am digging deep into my color palette.  The flowers in the foreground are thick and loose.  The trail of flowers fades into the horizon where the hills/mountains are.  I started with a toned canvas - using scarlet red, it really warmed the canvas up, and there are little pieces of the scarlet showing through on the coulds.  This is my post for Day #11 for Leslie Saeta's Paint Challenge.  Thanks for looking....Be sure to contact Kay with any questions concerning the paintings posted here.  Thanks, Kay

Blue Skies Above

Day #10 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge
This is a re-do from a painting that I was not happy with, and although I normally don't go back into a re-do, re-work, re-paint, re-finished painting, but I did this twice.  I am happier with this impressionistic landscape, and I am not going to change it....again.!!!!  I like the hint of the lavender in the foreground, and the swirling, moving clouds.  I used a wide brush and a medium sized palette knife to apply the paint.  Thanks for looking at this blog, and this painting...Kay

12" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Canvas needs frame.
Contemporary Floral Landscape Painting
Day #9 of the 30 Paintings/30 Days Challenge
I started this landscape months ago, got frustrated, and then finished it this week.  I started with a photograph from one of our summers in Michigan, and took my artistic license and winged it.    I wanted soothing clouds and sky, evergreens and spruce trees in the background, and patches of floral color.  It is now drying in the studio, and I have a neat frame to put on it.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking....today is day 9 of the 30 Day challenge....be sure to check it out!  Lots of artists painting and posting on a daily basis.  KMW

Colorado Landscape Study

Colorado Landscape Study
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas
Framed in gold plein air frame.
Day 8 in Leslie's 30/30 Paint Challenge

Today's post is a painting that I did when I returned from Colorado last year.  I was going to post a new painting, but after looking at it on the computer, decided I needed to tweak it today.  So a new painting will be posted tomorrow!  This painting was a good exercise for me, and I concentrated on the background receding, and getting the foreground to pop with color.  Contact Kay Wyne with comments or questions.  Thanks, Kay

Wildflower Vista

Wildflower Vista
24" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Wildflower Landscape Painting
This painting has been in the works for several weeks, and I can now say I am finished!  I wanted the foreground to be overgrown, thick with color and texture on the wildflowers.  I wanted to create a scene that appeared to be untouched, beautiful and dreamy.  The viewer can see the path of wildflowers as they trail off into the horizon, fading into the sky.  I started with a photograph that I had taken several years ago as inspiration, but took my artistic license and created this colorful landscape vista.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting...it is in the studio drying.  It does need a frame!  Thanks, Kay

Lazy Days

Lazy Days
14" x 14" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Wildflower Landscape Painting

I thought I was finished with this painting days ago, but
took a look at it after I photographed it, and was not
sure that it was finished.  I added some color and lots of
texture in the foreground.  The muted colors were just too
dull and un-inviting for me.  I really like the punch of the
lavender and yellows in the flowers.  Contact Kay for
more information.  Thanks, Kay

Reflections of Turtle Creek

Reflections
12" x 16" Plein Air Landscape
Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Day 4 of the 30/30 Challenge
I started to post another painting, but decided that I needed to make some changes on it in the studio today.  So I am posting a plein air painting that I painted at Turtle Creek in Dallas.  The sky was changing quickly and the light and shadows were moving.  I used my trusty palette knife on this panel. My goal was to nail the colors of the day and get the lily pads in the painting.  At first I was concerned that there was too much green in the landscape, and also so many variations of green.  I finished this painting in about an hour and half.

This painting is ready to be framed, and ready for a new home.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting or any others posted here.  Be sure to check out the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.  Lots of art posted on one blog from 1,000 artists!  Thanks, Kay

Impulsive

Impulslive
18" x 18" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape Painting

This painting was a total re-do for me.  I had an abstract
on the canvas, was totally not liking it.  So I switched
gears and decided it would be a floral landscape...rather
abstract, with thick, thick paint.  I put it on the studio wall
immediately because I did not want to bump into the wet
paint.  I was very impulsive on this painting, and pulled
out some tools---no brushes.  I used a couple of palette
knives, some wipe-off instruments that are great for
scraping and drawing through the paint.  Thanks for
looking at this blog.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.

Enchanting

Enchanting
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Wildflower Landscape Painting
Today is the first day of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge....and yes, I am participating again!  I enjoy a challenge and since I am working on a landscape series, my theme is Wildflower Landscapes.  Be sure to check out all of the work Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Paint Challenge.  This painting, Enchanting is now finished.  I reworked the clouds and flowers in the back ground.  I softened the sky with more paint and a large dry brush.  The flowers in the foreground are painted with thick, palette knife strokes...lots of texture.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  It is drying in the studio.  Thanks, Kay
