Still Life on my easel....by Kay Wyne

Untitled
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Still Life - Palette Knife Painting
Sitting on my easel, giving myself some time to decided if it needs any more paint.  This was a fun painting for me, as one of my studio mates brought a catalog in and we discussed the beautiful floral arrangements.  It didn't take me long to get going on this canvas.  I had started a landscape painting, but quickly changed my mind once I saw the full bouquets of beautiful petals.  Lots of knife marks and texture cover this canvas.  I will let you know if it is completed....but for now, this is my untitled painting....Kay

Jonquils, tulips, and violets were in full bloom at the Dallas Arboretum-absolutely beautiful colors!  I rushed back to the studio to paint them after my first visit of 2017.  I have returned to enjoy the wonderful beds of florals several times in the last few weeks, seeing something new every visit.  You can enjoy this contemporary floral painting in your home or office year round - "Flower Power" is dry and available for purchase.  Contact Kay Wyne for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

First Rooster by Kay Wyne

First Rooster
20" x 16" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Series
I am in the studio these days working on a commission, and took a break to paint this fun rooster.  It's 2017 --- The Year of the Rooster.  This is my first rooster to paint this year, so I named it "First Rooster".  Using a large filbert brush, I scrubbed over an old painting, so there are colors peaking through.  I did not go into any details with this colorful rooster---I used generous amounts of straight paint (no medium) so some of the brush marks are thick, others are thin.  This painterly rooster is drying in the studio, but will be looking for a new home!  Contact Kay Wyne for more info.  Thanks for looking...KMW

Lush by Kay Wyne

Lush
18" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
I painted this abstract landscape yesterday in the studio, starting with a canvas that was half completed.  It was five cowgirls sitting on the back-end of a pick up truck.  I had lost my interest in the painting, so I grabbed a palette knife and started covering the canvas.  Some of the color on the original painting peeks through the layers of paint...making it interesting and giving it depth.
Close-up of the knife work.  Lots of loose knife action, giving the canvas texture.    I painted the sides of the canvas Vulcan Grey, so framing is optional.  Contact Kay Wyne for more information on this painting or any of my other canvases.  Thanks, KMW

Launch Into The Blue - Sold

Launch Into The Blue
20" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Commission
Contemporary Seascape Painting
It's another boat painting for a Northern Michigan boater and collector of art---capturing the waves and excitement of being a part of the Boyne Thunder Race in July.  This beautiful boat is making it's way through the channel in Charlevoix, Michigan out into Lake Michigan.  I wanted to capture the colorful crowd, the neat lighthouse and the captain of boat - Jim - on canvas.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be varnished before it is shipped Up North!  Painting this image really made me anxious for summertime and the Michigan beach.  Thanks for looking at this blog...If you would like to talk to me about a commissioned painting, contact ME.  Thanks, Kay

Wings by Kay Wyne

Wings
40" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Layers of oils make this original oil painting fun, interesting and whimsical.  I started with an abstract underpainting, then worked with a palette knife on the dragonfly. I imagined painting the colorful stained glass in our church sanctuary when I was working on the shapes and lines in the wings.  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay Wyne for more information on this contemporary dragonfly!  Thanks, KMW

Upstream by Kay Wyne

Upstream
Contemporary Abstract
48" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

I painted this abstract on a 48" x 60" Gallery Wrap Canvas. It can hang vertically or horizontally. I painted it horizontally until the last day, and at the point I turned it on it's side to reach some canvas that needed some detail and brushstrokes headed in another direction. Turning the canvas on all four sides gives the viewer some options on hanging.

This painting started out as a landscape with a horizon line and colorful land bars. Once my wide lines and shape started to take place, it began to look and feel like a stream of water with fish swimming upstream. I concentrated on my color palette from the get-go, wanting pleasant and beautiful colors. I mixed everything...nothing is straight out of a tube. This painting is drying at the studio, and is ready for a coat of varnish. The sides of the canvas are painted with a dark vulcan grey, and framing is not necessary. Contact Kay Wyne for more information on this painting.  Thanks, KMW

On my easel....

40" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I took some willow charcoal and put in a rough sketch of where I wanted the dragonfly.  I thought I would let some of the polka dots show through, but they eventually got covered up.
I am using my palette knife on this canvas---applying thick amounts of oils loaded with impasto.  More work in the studio today.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay Wyne

Red Dragonfly - Sold

Red Dragonfly
32" x 32" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting is sold, but I needed to see it yesterday, as I was working on an abstract canvas, 40" x 40" and it wasn't going in the right direction for me.  So I immediately searched for the photograph below (thank you, Mark Malone).  I could see that the abstract needed a dragonfly and so I grabbed some charcoal and started drawing...
Here is the canvas that was moving in the wrong direction...will post pics tomorrow on my progress.  Heading to the studio to paint, as I am in-between commissions. Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay Wyne

Teeny Tiny Floral by Kay Wyne

Teeny Tiny Floral
3" x 3" Oil on Cradleboard Panel
Contemporary Floral
I placed two very large orders of art supplies last week, and I tried some new brushes, panels, and colors in my oils.  Here is a small panel that I purchased, and with some left over paint from another painting, I played around in the studio.
Here I am holding this panel, just to give you an idea of the size.  I was letting some areas in another painting dry before I laid in more paint, so it was a fun break to paint these panels that look like tiles.  More tomorrow....Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay Wyne

Simple Pleasures - Sold

Simple Pleasures
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Floral
This painting is sold, but I was looking through my files of paintings and stopped at this one.  It is very abstract with shapes blocked in and no detail.  No fussiness at all, giving it a clean contemporary look.  When I finish my commission that is on the easel, I think I will dive into a still life painting.  We have plenty of fresh flowers in the studio, as several of my studio mates are painting florals.  It's spring, and we all love flowers.  Thanks for looking at my blog....more new paintings are in the studio.  Kay Wyne
