On the easel...Window Boxes

Window Boxes
This painting is still wet. I painted it on Saturday, and I thought it was finished. But after going to the studio today and looking at it, I need to hit it with some more paint. At 10:00 a.m. the temperature inside the studio was 80 degrees. Trying to paint when it is so hot and humid makes me cranky. So, I hung it up for the day. Hopefully the air conditioning will get fixed SOON. I hope that your day was cool and creative. Thanks for viewing my blog.

Brown Eggs

6" x 6" oil on cotton panel
This little study sold this week at The Dutch Art Gallery. It was a still life that I set up in the studio. The Race Is On!

The Race Is On!
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
24" x 36"
I just completed this painting...and had to dash home from the studio to watch The Preakness Stakes. I usually don't paint race horses from this perspective. But as always, I am putting the paint on the canvas to express the movement, excitement and colorful feel of the race.

I was able to get a good start on a palette knife painting today...windows, window boxes, and flower pots. I was covered in paint...that painting needs to set-up before I start putting shadows and details in. Thanks so much for viewing my blog. Have a great weekend, and feel free to contact me if you are interested in any of my paintings.

Elsie

Elsie
Oil on Canvas
16" x 20"
Currently at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas
I am posting Elsie because I was not able to photograph my latest painting today. This contemporary cow is all framed up and sitting at Dutch Art. It rained all afternoon, and Dallas had some nasty weather. That kind of throws you off schedule when you are without power! I hope to post my newest race horse tommorrow. Thanks so much for viewing this blog. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in any of my paintings.

Arboretum Koi

Arboretum Koi-SOLD!

This painting was sold last Saturday at the artists' reception for the opening at The Wine Therapist. Thanks to all the people who attended. We had a very good turn-out. A very cute couple (Kevin and Colleen) purchased this contemporary oil painting.

I need to look forward and plan for our next exhibit at The Texas Discovery Garden at Fair Park. We will be exhibiting at the Discovery Gardens during the great Texas State Fair 2010. So with that upcoming show and a couple of commissions, I have plenty of painting ahead of me. Have an artful day!!!

Coop

Coop
Coop Tour: Do you know what a Coop Tour is?
(From Webster’s Dictionary)
Coop: 1 : a cage or small enclosure (as for poultry); also : a small building for housing poultry
Tour: 1 a : one's turn in an orderly schedule

Several weekends ago, John Wyne and I did the Dallas Coop Tour on a Sunday afternoon….all over Dallas, Texas. We went on a Coop Tour. Basically, it was a tour around the neighborhood, viewing the chicken coops. Actually, it was very interesting…it took us four hours (with map in hand) to hit eleven coops inside the Dallas city limits. Not out in the country! I got lots of pics of roosters, chickens, and even a turkey. Lots of great painting material!

Coop is the name of this feathered friend….this painting did not have a name until yesterday, when Pam Massar at The Dutch Art Gallery named him….for the Coop Tour. This contemporary oil painting is on a 30” x 30” canvas. I used lots of oil paint on him…I hope to be posting some more paintings from our little tour. I hope that you have a great day! Thanks for viewing this blog! Feel free to contact me for more information on my art.

Time to Cowboy Up

Time to Cowboy Up
Oil on 48" x 24" Gallery Wrap Canvas
$900
I finally finished this contemporary cowboy...my motivation to complete it was our show last night at The Wine Therapist. So I went to the studio early yesterday and worked on him. I had four pieces hanging at the show, but there was some great wall space on the outdoor patio area, and this piece looks really good on the barn-looking wall. This painting has changed so much since I started it..... it has been through alot, just like a cowboy. My reference for Time to Cowboy Up was my nephew Casey Settles...trying to put his chaps on for a horse show. I wanted to do more with the fringe, but was afraid that I might over-paint it. I left the chaps with some wide brush strokes...did not want to paint it all in. Thanks to everyone who attend last night's reception. We had a huge turn-out and we sold some art! The performance by David Carr, Jr. was great. Thanks for viewing this blog!!! Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Kay@kwyne.com
