Soaking Up Sunshine by Kay Wyne

Soaking Up Sunshine
14" x 14" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This is a very painterly piece...I used a wide brush through-out the painting process, and you can see that once I put the paint on the canvas, I did not go back into it and play with it.  I let every stroke count.  This painting is hanging at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  Contact the gallery or ME for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Go With The Flow by Kay Wyne

Go With The Flow
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
(I may need to adjust the color as it is somewhat lighter as I
look at the painting and compare it to the photo.
Or, it could be my computer.)
This palette knife painting is drying on my easel in the studio.  I put the title, "Go With The Flow" on it because as I layered the oils and moved the paint on the canvas it was obvious that I need to go with the flow, and let it happen.
This is a close-up of the palette knife work....layers of color, leaving knife edges and forming shapes.  Lots of fracturing going on, and some texture.  But the neatest part of the painting is the color.  The colors are beautiful, and they flow very well from one grey to a violet to a magenta to a red to an orange and then the neutrals.  There are some punches of turqoise and blue in there.  I mixed piles and piles of oils on my palette as I made my way through this painting.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, KMW

Joyful Day II - Just Sold!

Joyful Day II
Sold
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This contemporary abstract painting has a new home!
The colors are great in this painting, as they were worked
into the canvas with the palette knife.  There are subtle changes
in the paint, allowing the eye of the viewer to roam all over the canvas.
I have been working on a collaborative commission outside
the studio for a month, and I am missing my easel time.  I am ready
to get backing the studio and finish up two paintings that are screaming
for attention.  Thanks for looking at my blog.....Kay Wyne

Joyful Day by Kay Wyne

Joyful Day
60" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape
Palette Knife Painting
Currently hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas
I love painting on this size canvas...it give me plenty of canvas space
to work on, and I don't feel confined.  I guess it is similar to having a
large backyard...you don't feel closed in and cramped, and you have
plenty of room to run around and play.  I hope the viewer enjoys this
floral landscape as much as I enjoyed painting it.  I used a large palette
knife all the way through the painting.  Contact Kay Wyne for more info
on this painting, Joyful Day.  Thank you....KMW

Small and Simple - Sold - by Kay Wyne

Small and Simple
Sold
8" x 8" Oi l on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Painting
This painting just sold...it is very simple and the shapes are geometric.  Not a lot of fussiness going on with my brushstrokes.  I had a small floral arrangement that I was looking at, and simplified the arrangement in my mind with a few strokes, put them on the canvas, and left it alone.  Sometimes that is hard to do---the leaving it alone part.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Happy Valentines Day to all!  Kay Wyne

Bursting With Joy by Kay Wyne

Bursting With Joy
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Last Saturday I painted a demonstration to the visitors at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas, and Bursting With Joy was the end result.  I had a gorgeous arrangement full of interesting colors and shapes.  The vase was very tall and cylinder, so I painted a portion of it so that I could get more florals than anything on my canvas panel.  Once this dries, the gallery will frame it up.  The show, Kaleidoscope will hang at the gallery for the month of February.  If you haven't seen it, please go see the paintings that Sharon Hodges, Lisa Reed and I have created for the gallery.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Kay Wyne

Shea Baby by Kay Wyne

Shea Baby
30" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting
This is one of my all-time favorite paintings that I have created....of Shea, the family dog....our yellow Lab.  I like the wide and loose brushstrokes, the color palette, and of course the subject matter.  She is larger than life, and in your face with her tennis ball.   I wanted to capture her personality and energy on the canvas.  Shea Baby isn't with us anymore, but when I look at this canvas it reminds me what a great family pet she was.  Contact ME for more info on my paintings.  Thanks for looking....Kay

Grey Skies by Kay Wyne

Grey Skies
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
A storm off in the distance, rumbling clouds and a wide open grassy pasture make this painting moody.  Or you might not see what I see...and see shapes and colors in a very abstract way.  Variations in color and texture make this palette knife painting interesting.  If you would like to know more about this painting, contact ME.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Painting Demonstration - Contemporary Floral by Kay Wyne

Yesterday's painting demonstration at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas
was attended by quiet a few friends and collectors.  I chose this beautiful
floral arrangement as my subject matter, picked up a 20" x 16" RayMar
Cotton Panel, and took off.....

After looking at the vertical format, I decided it would be a much more interesting painting if I used a horizontal format.  I took some Cad Orange and toned the white canvas down.
I quickly sketched it out on my canvas, then started laying in the colors.  I worked on this for about two hours, before the reception started.

Here is the final painting....it is drying at the gallery, and will probably be framed.  It was great putting on the show with studio mate Sharon Hodges and Santa Fe Artist Lisa Adams Reed.  Thanks to Selena for the beautiful floral arrangement, and Dutch Art Gallery for hosting a successful show!  I believe that seven of my paintings were sold!!!  Thanks, Kay Wyne

On my easel....by Kay Wyne

On my easel....
This is a fun painting that I started, and can't wait to get back to it.  My studio mate Selena was cleaning out a drawer, and found a photo of six cowgirls sitting on the tailgates of pickup trucks, and offered me the opportunity to use it.  The 1940-sh photo is in black and white, so I am punching it up with my own colors.  I had to eliminate one of the girls...just couldn't put an even number of figures on my canvas.  I will jazz it up the clothing with fringe, boots, rope, scarves, and a few other colorful items.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  KMW

Grey Skies by Kay Wyne

Grey Skies
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This horizontal canvas gave me the perfect format for a contemporary landscape painting.  It is very abstract, and you can see that a funnel cloud is sitting on the horizon.  I wanted my colors to be earthy and muted and give the feel of a storm coming.  I used a palette knife all the way on this painting...so there are no brush strokes.  There is some texture where the oils are built up.  The sides of the canvas are painted, so framing is optional.  Contact Kay for more information on Grey Skies....it is looking for a new home!  Thanks, Kay
