Radiance

Radiance
20" x 24" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Special thanks to RD and LB for the beautiful birthday floral arrangement shipped to me from Ecuador !  When the box arrived, I didn't know what to do with the petals (floral arrangement is not my specialty!)  So I took them down to my local florist and he worked his special magic!  Thank you, Renarldo at Lake Highlands Flowers!  I enjoyed exploring the different shades of green in the painting.  I mixed all of my colors, and pushed some of them to be warmer or cooler than they actually were in the still life.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be framed up once it is varnished.  Please feel free to contact ME about this painting!  Have an artful day, Kay
P.S.  Here's a photo of my set-up in the studio.

Bursting With Love

Bursting With Love
20" x 24" Oil and Silver Leaf on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral
I was visiting Pitzer's Fine Art Gallery in Wimberley, Texas in May when I spotted a beautiful floral arrangement that had been delivered to Pam, the gallery director.  The arrangement was an early Mother's Day gift to Pam.  OMG, I had to photograph them and paint them!  The colors were amazing, and I decided that they would pop if I painted them on silver leaf.  I can't wait to get this floral framed up!  It is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  KMW

Pecan Leaves

Pecan Leaves
9" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
I have a studio mate who might share a photo or drawing or idea with me, and we both paint in our own styles.  My studio mate S. brought a pecan leaf, and I had fun abstracting it and using a different color palette. First I started with a toned canvas.  I think it was Cad Orange.  Then I drew some big shapes with a willow charcoal stick.  I limited myself to three greens for the leaves, and simplified the viens that were running through the leaves.  Here's my finished product...it is always fun to see how others interpret and see things differently - that's why I like paint challenges.  Thanks for looking.....Kay

Happy Happy

Happy Happy
8" x 8" Oil on Richeson Hardboard
Limited Palette
Contemporary Still Life
I painted this quickly and loosely with a limited palette.  I was working off of a photograph one of my studio mates brought in to share.   I was aware of the transparent oils going in before I started in with my opaques.  You can see that I did not fuss over my brushstrokes...they were deliberate and once I put them in, I left them.  This painting would look great sitting on an easel or framed up.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Thanks, KMW

Get Ready

Get Ready
12" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
I started this painting in a workshop, finished it in the studio.  Lots of attention was paid to the light and shadows in this scene.  I used a limited palette of six colors and white.  "Get Ready" has a calmness to it, and the water has reflections that pull the eye into the painting.  This panel is drying in the studio, waiting to get framed up.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  I have more paintings in different stages going at the studio!  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  KMW

Workshop

12" x 12" Oil on Panel
Workshop Painting
I was in a Derek Penix workshop in Ft. Worth last week...had a fabulous time, learned a lot and met some great artists.  I love watching demos, and Derek was very generous with this techniques and his approach to painting.  Working off of a photo that he took, this is my take-away from day #1.
Thanks for looking at my blog....more photos from the workshop to come!  Kay
