Perfect Fit by Kay Wyne

Perfect Fit
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Occasionally I participate in a painting challenge...and "Perfect Fit" is the result of an artist group critique.  The photograph that we worked off of was very interesting...with antique mannequins of different sizes and shapes.  I took my palette knife out for this painting...so there is some texture.  Contact ME for more information on this painting.  Thanks, Kay

Twister by Kay Wyne

Twister
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
I was thinking of all the severe weather we are having in Texas when I named this contemporary abstract.  The current weather situation of flooding and high winds have left a path of destruction.  On my canvas, the eye of the storm on the canvas is swirling, as if I am looking at a tornado from an aerial view.  The muddy greys and violets are mixed in with the olive greens...it's not my usual color palette.  You can see the wide swipes or strokes that I took with the palette knife, leaving some texture on the canvas.  This painting is drying in the studio...Contact ME for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Green Grass

Green Grass
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Landscape
I started painting on this panel with a wash of cad yellow, then started putting in my horizon line, working my way to the foreground.  The field is sprinkled with colorful wildflowers.  I used a palette knife to apply the paint on this cotton panel.  There is texture built up, as the paint is pretty thick when it has impasto in it.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be entered in a juried spring show.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Kay

Colors of Spring by Kay Wyne

Colors of Spring
16" x 20" Oil on Museum Quality Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Landscape Painting
This is a studio painting that I finished up last week.  Using a color palette that has some warm ochres and transparent earth yellows, the field is scattered with colorful wildflowers.  As the viewer's eye see the cad reds, violets and cad yellows in the foreground, they eye wanders to the horizon.  I enjoyed process of painting this one.  This floral landscape will be entered in a juried art exhibit this month...Thanks for looking at my painting....Kay

Finish Line

Finish Line
16" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Equine Painting
The race is on!  I haven't painted a racehorse painting for a couple of years, and thought it was time to revisit the subject matter of the horse.  I wanted to express the strength and speed of horses at the finish line in this painting.  I didn't get fussy with the details, and put the jockeys in colorful silks.  This painting does need a frame, and it will be entered in a spring show.  Thanks for looking at this blog...contact Kay for more information on my art.  I will be back in the studio working on a commission this week.  KMW

On my easel...

This 12" x 12" oil painting is sitting on my easel.  I thought I was finished, but I see a few more details that need to be added to this landscape.  Sometimes it helps to see what the painting looks like on the computer.  More studio work today.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Grey Day by Kay Wyne

Grey Day
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
I finished this painting weeks ago, and just titled it today.
Grey Day.  It feels like a grey, rainy day that gives you low energy
and makes you want to stay at home.  It is a calm and quiet painting.
The cool greens, violets and whites all are mixed with cool greys.
The colors are harmonious, and there is texture on the canvas.
I used a wide brush, narrow brush and a couple of palette knives.
This painting is at the studio right now, and would love to have
a new home. Framing is not necessary, as the sides of
the canvas are painted.  Contact Kay for more information!  KMW

Vortex - Abstract Diptych by Kay Wyne

Vortex
Abstract Diptych - Vortex I and II
40" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
These two canvases started out as a landscape, but ended up with the energy and movement of a vortex.  (According to my studio mates.)  This was a painting that ended up going in a different direction once I got into it.  I had put my darks in first, and went over-board, and after letting it sit on my easel for several weeks, I painted out the darks, and scraped some of the dark greens and grey out.  My favorite colors in this are the cad oranges mixed with the pinky beiges.  There is a hint of turqoise under the layers of greens. The blues and grey are beautiful...I mixed and mixed piles of them and layered them on with the palette knife.  There is a lot of depth and texture.  It is drying at the studio.  Contact Kay Wyne for more information on this diptych.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay
