Vista

Vista
12" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Landscape
I had mixed piles and piles of beautiful colors for a previous canvas, and when I completed the painting I decided that I needed to use the paint up.  I grabbed a toned canvas and started putting in the sky and the field.  It all fell into place.  All the colors are harmonious because they are mixed---nothing straight out of the tube.  I did use some impasto, so texture is a big part of this painting.  I have a great frame for it, and it will bee handsome framed up!  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at my blog. Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy
40" x 40" Oil, Oil Bar and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
This large canvas went through a lot of changes over the past week...Layers of drawings, brushwork and scraping finally got me to the place where I felt like this abstract was finished. It's drying in the studio, with the sides of the canvas painted a dark vulcan grey.  (Framing is optional....it's wired, and ready to hang!)  The spice of turquoise offsets the muted pinks, whites and greys.  When you look up close you can see drawings in charcoal that come and go.  I named this abstract Cotton Candy because it of the shades of pink...and it was so much fun to create!  Thanks for looking at my blog..Kay

Heck - Contemporary Abstract

Heck
32" x 32" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
Oil Paint, Oil Bars, Impasto, Palette Knives and Brushes
It was great going to the studio today...I told John that
I was going to paint "just for the heck of it!"
Here's what my canvas started out like:
After pushing and pulling the paint, applying it with a brush and palette knife, I completed the painting.  It will take a while for the layers to dry.  I am pretty sure that I am finished, but I might make some minor changes after living with it.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Pink Vase II

Pink Vase II
Contemporary Floral Abstract
6" x 8" Oil on Cradle Board
Here's another small abstract to go with painting that I posted yesterday, Pink Vase.  Seafoam green, ice blue, coral, dianthus pink, magenta and cream with a hint of neutral grey are the colors I used. Using thick paint applied with the palette knife, brush and then markings with oil bars gave me the texture that I wanted.  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Pink Vase

Pink Vase
Contemporary Abstract Floral
Oil on 6" x 8" Cradle Board
This abstract has several layers of thick oil paints and oil bars applied to the surface.  The paint is so thick that you can see brush marks and texture on the cradle board.  I was experimenting with the cradle board...not my first choice of surface to paint on, but the hard, smooth surface does have some qualities that the canvas does not.  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks, KMW

Plein Air Painting
I'm back home...after a month in Illinois and Michigan.  I have been painting, but because of travel and computer issues, I have taken a break from blogging.  Here is a plein air painting that I painted from the cottage porch overlooking the lake.  It made it back to Dallas, and I hope to frame it.  Stay cool...I am staying inside the comforts of the air conditioned studio working on a commission.  Contact Kay with any comments/questions.  KMW

Day After Fourth of July

Day After Fourth of July
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Plein Air Landscape
Sequanota Club, Charlevoix, Michigan
Up North the fourth of July is celebrated big-time...picnics, fireworks, swimming, boating, sailing, and lots of outdoor fun with friends and family.  The day after was quiet in comparison, but lovely.  I ventured down to the Klingbeil Cottage and painted outdoors.  The birch trees were beautiful with Lake Charlevoix in the background.  Here is a pic of myself painting en plein aire.
I am thrilled that this painting has a new home...in Ironton, Michigan.  It will be framed up and hang in a beautiful cottage not far from where I painted this panel.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Artfully yours, Kay

Meet Me At Cadillac Ranch

Meet Me At Cadillac Ranch
36" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Painting the iconic Cadillacs located outside
Amarillo, Texas turned out to be so much fun!
First go-around with the layout of the cars was too small so I drew
over it with a brush and made them larger than life.
There are layers and layers of paint, applied with a palette knife, brush,
scraper, and various wipe-out tools.  Pieces of the red-toned
canvas peak through---giving the painting a variety of
textures.  This painting is looking for a new home---contact
Kay for more information. Thanks for visiting my blog.  KMW

Dallas Days

Dallas Days
36" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Cityscape
Inspired by a plein air experience at White Rock Lake, I decided that I would go with a large canvas --- 36" x 48" in the studio.  The subject matter was the same, with the Dallas skyline in the background, White Rock Lake and the tall grass on the hill in the foreground. Wide brushstrokes and palette knife work were used to create this cityscape.  This painting is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  KMW

New Small Series: Itty Bitty #1

Itty Bitty #1
3" x 3" Oil on Cradle Board
Small Floral
It's a mini blue vase filled with flowers on a very teeny weeny surface.  It would of been easier for me to paint this on a 3 foot by 3 foot canvas.  I had an idea about a year ago for these small multi-media boards.  I purchased over 100 of them, so I have more Itty Bitty paintings to do!  The paint was applied with a small filbert, and I ended up pushing the paint around with a wipe-out tool.  It is drying in the studio....will post more of these fun little ones.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay Wyne for more info.  KMW

Let The Sun Shine In

Let The Sun Shine In
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
Ready for a new home, this original oil painting has a lot going on.  Variations of color, shapes and lines make this abstract painting unique.  I couldn't duplicate this one if I wanted to.  I started out by tinting the canvas with some transparent colors, and then using a large filbert brush,  scrubbing in shapes.  I pulled out a small filbert once the first three layers were dry to the touch and painted lines to connect and overlap, pulling the painting together.  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks, KMW

Flashy

Flashy
4" x 4" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Floral Abstract
4" x 4" is teeny tiny!  I applied the paint in thick globs without using an medium to thin the paint down.  I had to simplify my composition and make every stroke count with this size canvas.  This painting has the 1/2" sides of the canvas painted the deep charcoal grey that you see in the pic above, with my signature on this side.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting or any other painting posted on my blog.  Have an artful day....KMW

Maid-Rite Memories

Maid-Rite Memories
20" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Oil Painting
Maid-Rite is midwestern burger joint...and there once was a Maid-Rite on the main street in my hometown of Macomb, Illinois.  Several years ago John and I were visiting Macomb, and I took photos of the old building.  It was in bad shape, with broken glass, pealing paint, holes in the roof --- and has been demolished.  It had a lot of character, and everyone who has ever eaten at the Maid-Rite has those memories.  Since we will be returning to Macomb this summer, I thought painting the iconic Maid-Rite establishment was appropriate!  I wanted to capture the hometown feel of walking down Jackson Street looking up at the EAT sign.  This original oil painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting!  Have an artful day...KMW

Signs of Summer

Signs of Summer
16" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Seascape
I had a panel that I was ready to trash, and decided to turn the panel upside down and start something new.  No more boats on this painting!  I had lots of lavenders, greys, and flesh tones on my palette, so I decided I would paint the beach.  The seagrass (thinking of Seabrook Island) is shooting out of the sand---I wish I had used some impasto on the grass, as it will take a long time for the globs of paint to dry. Thanks for looking at my blog...I hope that you can feel the sand between your toes when you see this painting.  Thanks, KMW

Opposites Attract

Opposites Attract
8" x 8" oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Still Life
How many times have we heard that saying, "Opposites attract to one another"?  OMG.  Many times.  That is what was happening here on the canvas for me.  Unexpected colors, lines and shapes all seemed to be opposites.  Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.  This fun and whimsical abstract evolved after several days of pushing the paint out of the tubes and paint in the stick.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at my blog...KMW

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This colorful still life is framed in a beautiful gold frame.  When I painted this, I was focusing on the light source and wanted to get the dramatic shadows painted in.  My favorite part of the painting is the fruit and the edges of the petals on the peonies.  I was letting my brush dance around, giving the petals a playful, loose look.  The apples were painted in simple strokes, with a wide bright brush.  This painting is available...contact Kay for more info.  Have a great day...KMW
