Luscious

Luscious
Alla Prima
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I was working on a large painting, needing to meet a deadline in the studio yesterday.  I was not happy with the progress, and felt the need to start a new painting.  It was easier for me to do that than to struggle with the deadline.  Switching gears, I pulled out a #14 Bright and painted away.  This one was painted in one session, swiftly without hesitation.  This painting is drying in the studio.  I have the perfect frame for it!  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks, KMW

Let The Sun Shine

Let The Sun Shine In
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I have been painting small panels swiftly---30 to 45 minutes, alla prima and walking away from it.  Here's one that is very wet.  I wanted to capture the light hitting the pot, and the irregular sunflower petals and leaves.  It was fun and great to be able to start and finish a painting in a short amount of time.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Up Close
16" x 8" Oil and Charcoal on RayMar Cotton Panel

Now that I am looking at this abstract, I see a city road map.  The lines outline shapes and lead into other spaces and shapes on the canvas.  This panel would look great framed up in a floater frame.  It is varnished, and available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking, Kay

Lovely and Alive

Lovely and Alive
8" x 8" Oil on Cotton RayMar Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
I worked on several painting in the studio yesterday, and after I got bored with them, I pulled out a new panel and painted away.  Using a new #8 Bright Brush and all the left-over paint on my palette, I started a floral still life. The oils were mixed, and I was able to pull this one off alla prima.  My first attempt was spontaneous and lively.  I did not go back into the paint once I laid it on the canvas...this painting is very wet, and once it dries I can't wait to put a frame on it.  Thanks for looking at my blog...contact Kay for more info on my art.  Kay

Dallas Days

Dallas Days
36" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary City Scape
Inspired by a plein air experience at White Rock Lake, I decided that I would go with a large canvas --- 36" x 48" in the studio. The subject matter was the same, with the Dallas skyline in the background, White Rock Lake and the tall grass on the hill in the foreground. Wide brushstrokes and palette knife work were used to create this cityscape. Thanks for looking at this blog! KMW

Oh Happy Day!

Oh Happy Day!
18" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
My favorite canvas shape is the square, but I really like the canvas I picked for this horizontal still life.  The vase of flowers is intentionally off-center.  The bouquet fills the canvas and is spilling over the edges, implying that the bouquet is full and over-flowing.  I used the palette knife on most of this painting.  The canvas has plenty of texture and color.  I focused on lavenders and greens and greys and mixed piles and piles of oils when I painted this.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

A Day In Saguaro

A Day In Saguaro
12" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Landscape
This Arizona desert landscape is framed up and now hangs in our home.  The location is Saguaro National Park East.  The rough landscape of the desert was fun to paint once I had my underpainting in.  I used a palette knife on the mountains, cactus and shrubs.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Extravagant Ways

Extravagant Ways
Oil and Oil Stick on 40" x 40" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Floral
I love painting on large square canvases.  This 40" x 40" canvas is a mixed media piece because I used charcoal, oils, and oil bars.  Using the willow charcoal stick, I scraped into the layered oil when it was wet.  I enjoyed experimenting with different color combos as I worked my way through the painting.  The asymmetrical design and irregular shapes gives the imagination a chance to go to work.  Contact Kay for more info on this original painting.  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!  KMW

Maid-Rite Memories

Maid-Rite Memories
20" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Oil Painting
Maid-Rite is midwestern burger joint...and there once was a Maid-Rite on the main street in my hometown of Macomb, Illinois.  Several years ago John and I were visiting Macomb, and I took photos of the old building.  It was in bad shape, with broken glass, pealing paint, holes in the roof --- and has been demolished.  It had a lot of character, and everyone who has ever eaten at the Maid-Rite has those memories.  Since we will be returning to Macomb this summer, I thought painting the iconic Maid-Rite establishment was appropriate!  I wanted to capture the hometown feel of walking down Jackson Street looking up at the EAT sign.  This original oil painting is framed up and hanging in my kitchen.  It is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting!  Have an artful day...KMW

Untitled--but finished!

Untitled
48" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life
I have been working on this canvas for a few weeks, and I can say that it is finished!  I really like painting some of the Blue Spode pieces in my house...and this ginger jar was no exception.  I decided to take the top off the jar and put in flowers...all with the palette knife, so there is plenty of texture.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact me if you have a good title for it, or have any questions.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

I just signed this piece and it is drying in the studio.  I can honestly say that I did not have any hesitation when I approached this canvas.  I wanted my colors to have energy and movement.  There are shapes and lines covering the surface with layers of color overlapping, giving it interest.  As soon as this painting is dry, I will varnish and it will be ready for a new home!  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay with any questions.
