Angry Magpie by Kay Wyne

Angry Magpie
16" x 8"  Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Today is the first day in a long time that I have been able to blog....due to technical difficulties.  Spending less time on the computer equals more painting time in the studio.  This is one of three magpie paintings that are drying at the studio.  This guy was fun to paint, as he is full of personality.  Painting with basic white and black paint allows me to explore color values.  This is day Day # 29 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge.  Thanks for looking at my magpie!  Contact Kay Wyne for more information on this painting.  Thanks, KMW

White Rock Lake Plein Air by Kay Wyne

White Rock Lake in January
12" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
January in Dallas can be dicie, icie and just plain miserable when it comes to painting outside.  But yesterday was such a clear, warm and sunny day that I set out to paint at White Rock Lake with a friend.  We were perched in a very area of the lake, overlooking the water and land and the Dallas skyline.  We had a great day, and after an hour and a half, we had our paintings.
Here is my set-up overlooking the lake and the skyline in the far away distance.
Here is a pic of the lake view that I painted.  I wanted to capture the crisp clean feeling of the day....even though it was January the colors were not the best.  I can't wait to go back to the same location when it is warm and the flowers are out.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.

Grey Skies by Kay Wyne

Grey Skies
30" x40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This canvas is still on my easel....I think it is done, but I want to let it sit for a few days so I can look at it and possibly make some minor changes.  I am not sure that this photo really grasps the depth and true colors.  There is plenty of paint on the canvas, since I used a rather large palette knife to paint.  I focused on mixing my oils so they all related well to each other.  I may retake the photo.  Thanks for looking at my art posted here...Kay

Peaceful by Kay Wyne

Peaceful
12" x 16" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This is one of my favorite palette knife paintings...because
it went through so many changes to get to this finished stage.
It started out as a 18" x 18" canvas, and had two grazing cows
in the foreground.  I didn't like the composition, so I took the
canvas off the stretcher bars and cropped it down.  Framed up
in a dark plein air frame, it is hanging in our home.
Thanks for looking at my art....Kay

Abstract Nursery Art Project by Kay Wyne

Contemporary Abstract Nursery Paintings
Acrylic on Sixteen Cotton Panels
This is my latest nursery project for our new grandson.  I started with sixteen 6" x 6" RayMar Cotton Panels, painted the background white and slowly started painting shapes with the colors my daughter picked out.  She requested that the images be nonrepresentational with a certain color palette.  As I worked on the small surfaces, I kept adding and working the paint, until I felt like it was complete.  That happened three times.  I normally paint in oils, so working with the fast drying acrylics was a challenge.  I picked a simple white frame for each panel, and here is the result. I wanted a very clean but colorful presentation for the wall.
I hope to be back in the studio today, as I have a show I an upcoming show in February.  I have several new pieces to post for the paint challenge, so check back in with me tomorrow.  Thanks, Kay Wyne

Far Away By Kay Wyne

Far Away
20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract - Palette Knife Painting
I had an underpainting on this canvas that wasn't working for me, so I changed it up and got my palette knife out and started pushing and pulling the paint.  Then I used a rubber wipe-out tool to draw some lines and move paint around.  Then signed it!  Far Away is for sale, and you can contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at my blog....I will be in the studio today working on Day #6 for the paint challenge!  KMW

Abstract II by Kay Wyne

Abstract II (Untitled)
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This is the companion piece that hangs next to yesterday's painting that I posted.  Below is a picture of the two canvases on my easel.  Hanging as a diptych would make the painting approximately 40" x 60"...and would look great in a home or office setting.  The sides need to have a second coat of light grey paint, and I may put a few touches on it.
Today is Day #4 in the 30/30 Day Paint Challenge.  I have several abstracts and florals on my easel...I can't wait to get back into the studio after the holidays and the crazy schedules.  Thanks for looking at my art on this  blog....contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  KMW

Abstract by Kay Wyne

Abstract (untitled)
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Day #3 in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge
I loved working on this canvas...I mixed and mixed piles of juicy oils before I started, as I wanted to keep my colors toned down and in control.  I started with a light grey background, including the sides of the canvas.  Then I roughed in my design with a filbert before I started with the palette knife.  I have a companion canvas that you will see tomorrow, so both canvases can stand alone or it can hang as a diptych.  There are layers and layers of paint, along texture.  I haven't decided on a title yet...any suggestions would be appreciated!  Thanks for looking at my art.  Kay

Dreaming by Kay Wyne

Dreaming
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Painting
Layers of paint, drips of paint, palette knife work, brush work, and a large palette full of color made this painting fun and exciting for me.  I wish I had photographed all the steps and the process that I took to get to this point.  "Dreaming" was inspired by a beautiful floral bouquet.  This painting is drying at the studio after weeks of painting on it.  Contact ME for purchasing info.  I was able to start the year off with a great day of painting in the studio...Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay
