Untitled Astract

Untitled Abstract
40" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
I needed a free-flowing, fun, and colorful abstract, so here it is.  I used oils, charcoal and oil sticks.  It was just what I needed to paint!  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Have an artful day.  Kay

So Glad

So Glad
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral
This palette knife painting is officially finished!  It has gone through some some changes, as I had originally started this painting with a brush.  As I got frustrated with it, I decided I wanted lots of thick juicy oils.  I squeezed out piles of paint and a palette knife and tackled the canvas.  After a critique in the studio, and a few minor adjustments, this floral is signed and drying!  The reference photo that I used for this painting was taken years ago...and the beautiful colors of the gladioli caught my eye.  I am glad that I had the opportunity to paint them---although it was challenging at times.  Thanks for looking at my art...contact Kay

Let The Sun Shine In

Let The Sun Shine In
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
sold
This painting was so much fun to paint...and in one session, alla prima.  I wish all of my painting experiences were fun and successful!  Yesterday's time in the studio was a disaster, as I painted for four hours on a canvas, wiped it, and painted it again.  It was so bad that I wiped it again, and hope to start something totally different today.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Wimberley Walk

Wimberley Walk
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Landscape
On a recent Texas Hill Country trip, I found myself taking a early morning walk.  The sun was coming up, and the shadows were laying across this road, with view that was breathtaking.  I could see forever.  I was standing at the top of the hill, looking down the winding road.  I new it would make a great setting for a painting.  I focused on the light hitting the cactus and the long shadows falling across the road and hitting the rugged trees and shrubs.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog...contact Kay with any comments or questions.  KMW

20" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I can post this painting now that it has been gifted to Alex, the runner in the painting.  His father wanted to give him something special for his birthday, and when he saw the photo of him running on this trail, he knew to call me!  I believe that Alex gets the photo credit, as he had set his phone up with a timer to take the photograph that I used as my inspiration.  Thanks for looking at my blog, and Happy Birthday to Alex!  KMW

Star Gazing

Star Gazing
20" x 16" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
A big shout-out to Val, who took the photo that inspired me to paint this panel.  She was at White Rock Lake looking for the Bethlehem Star.  This photo is stunning...and I just had to paint it.  I started our with brushes, but decided that thick impasto would give it texture.  After laying out the painting, I took my palette knife to the piles of paint that I had mixed up.  This painting is drying in the studio.

On The Porch

On The Porch
12" x 16" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Still Life
It's summertime on the front porch, looking at the lake with some fresh peonies blooming.  A typical Michigan day, filled with sunshine and lovely colors.  This painting was painted just after we returned from Charlevoix, Michigan.  It's a reminder just how beautiful Up North is.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks, KMW

Garden Party

Garden Party
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral
Michigan peonies painted in my Texas studio.  We just returned from Northern Michigan, and the peonies were peaking when we arrived.  They were stunning, and I couldn't wait to paint them.  I wanted to capture the full blooms, bursting with color and energy.  The colors were magnificent, changing daily.  I appreciate friends Donna and Suzy allowing me to pick their mother's beautiful peonies...I truly enjoyed them, and hope to paint more of them in the future.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Happy Fourth of July!

Threesome

Threesome
18" x 18" Oil and Copper Leaf on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life
This painting was inspired by this robin's egg nest, perched up above the front door of the Henry home.  I decided this painting would be a great one to experiment with copper leaf.  The natural earthy colors of the nest worked well with the copper, and the turqoise eggs pop on the canvas.  This painting is drying in the studio, with framing as an option.  Please contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking, KMW

Looking At You

Looking At You
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Bovine Series
I have painted bovine beauties in the past, and it was good to paint this guy for a change.  He's colorful and as he looks straight on to you, he is full of personality.  My brush strokes are loose.  The oils are thick and layered.  This painting is all framed up and ready for a new home.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!
