Course of Color

Course of Color
12" x 16" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Landscape Palette Knife Painting
After changing directions on this painting by the urging of one of my collectors, I painted my first golf course.  I couldn't leave it with just greens...had to add some floral colors along the way. I mixed my colors and applied with a palette knife. This painting is drying in the studio.  Thank you for looking at my blog...Kay

Just Because - Sold

Just Because
SOLD!
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
"Just Because" has a new home, thanks to Pam Massar of Dutch Art Gallery.  It's alway great to know that my paintings have been placed in homes or offices and are being appreciated.  I remember painting this one from a still life set-up in the studio, as I borrowed them from my daughter Lindsay after son-in-law Wes gave them to her.  When I asked what the occasion was for giving Lindsay the flowers, Wes simply replied, "Just Because".  Thanks for looking at my blog. Have an artful day.  Kay

Good Vibes

Good Vibes
(thank you, Blake for the suggestion on the title!!!)
18" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
What do you do when you get a new palette knife?  Paint a palette knife painting!!!  I was so excited to get some new painting supplies, and since I have dropped (ruined) some of my knives, I decided to treat myself to a new one.  As I was playing with the paint, pushing and pulling the juicie oils, I came up with this abstract.  Lots of texture.  Beautiful colors.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  This painting is hanging at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.  Contact ME with any questions or comments!  Kay

These Days

These Days
Contemporary Abstract
Oil, Charcoal and Oil Bars on Canvas
Approximately 50" x 50" on Unstretched Canvas
These days I am into abstracts, starting with what I call a roadmap.  I draw, paint and then scrape away the oils, and do all again.  I mixed my colors and mixed more colors, and my piles of oil overlapped...so that they are harmonious. I did not plan anything, it all happened and the prussian blue lines/vase was put in at the very end...so now I have an abstract floral.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW

Standing Tall

Standing Tall
16" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral
Hollyhocks stand tall in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  My starting place for this painting began with a photograph of hollyhocks in downtown Santa Fe.  A friend of a friend passed the photograph along to me, and I asked permission to paint the garden.  These hollyhocks were colorful of various sizes and shapes.  I had fun with this painting, as it was the first time that I had painted hollyhocks.  I plan on painting more!  This one is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Contact Kay with questions or comments.  Have an artful day!  Kay

On My Easel...

On My Easel...
I was able to get into the studio yesterday and stretch an empty stretcher bar with the help of Susan and Selena.  It's always easier with six hands!  I started painting on this 36" x 36" Gallery Wrap Canvas.  I was painting for the sake of painting, with no intentions but to have a good time with my brushes and oils.  Below are a couple of pics.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  More studio painting today.  Kay

Sun, Sand, and the Rock

Sun, Sand, and the Rock
20" x 24" Oil on Cotton Panel
Contemporary Seascape
This painting has a beautiful pewter/champaign frame on it, and is ready for a new home.  This rock is Up North and recognizable to many who frequent the beach on Lake Charlevoix each summer.  The rock has texture since it was painted with heavy oils and a palette knife.  In contrast, the sand on the beach is smooth and colorful.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Poseys For You

Poseys For You
8" x 6" Oil on Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
Petals in a glass vase...a very typical still life set-up.  This small cotton panel was painted quickly and is very painterly.  I didn't dwell on each stroke, I just painted away.  I like the looseness and feel of this floral.  This painting is framed up and in the studio...contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Flower Power

Flower Power
12" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral
As I continue to stay at home and studio during this pandemic, I continue to paint on a daily basis.  It's a happy habit I have.  Yesterday I was in the studio by myself with these sunflowers.  I was using thick piles of oil, layers and layers of transparent, and found myself lost in the heavy golden petals flopping all over the canvas.  These bold sunflowers are drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Kay

Sunny Day

Sunny Day
16" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I started with a photograph that I took last year in Greece of a food market, and zoomed in on a crate of lemons.  It was a sunny day, and the golden yellows were brilliant as I looked at the lemon harvest.  I had a good time at the easel painting this one, and I was thinking about starting a new series...I would have a good time going to the Dallas Farmers Market (if I practiced social distancing, of course) and picking out some fresh fruits or veggies to paint.   This painting is finished, and drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Blue Day

Blue Day
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This is a very dramatic landscape that has just about every color that was on my palette.  It's bold, and will look great once it is varnished and framed up.  I used two tools to paint this one...a Kemper wipe-out tool, and a #27 Palette Knife. It's got a lot of texture and paint on it.   Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

I See Red

I See Red
11" x 14" Oil on Panel
I painted this palette knife painting for The Dutch Art Gallery.  They plan on framing it in a red floater frame...I can't wait to see how it looks!  Thick oils cover this panel, giving it a lot of texture. Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Crossroads

Crossroads
12" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Abstract
There's a lot of movement on this panel.  Lots of color too.  I see several crossroads in the landscape, with some twists and turns along the way.  I used bold colors, a palette knife and a wipe-out tool.  Loads of thick oils on this one.  It is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Kay
