Demo and Artist's Reception at Dutch Art Gallery

Floral Still Life Demonstration
18 x 24" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Here is the start of my demonstration at Dutch Art Gallery yesterday.....I had 90 minutes, and made the most of it.  I thought these beautiful tulips in a silver wine bucket would make for an interesting painting.
By the end of my demo the backdrop had fallen, and I really wanted to make a few more adjustments on the bucket and greenery.  I started with a toned RayMar cotton panel, and drew with a filbert the composition.  I couldn't wait to get the palette knife out and lay in the colors and create some texture.  It was a great turn-out and fun reception.  More pics to come!  Thanks to everyone who can to support Sharon, Debbie, Laurie and I.  Kay

  1. Kay, your painting is lovely! I wish I could watch a demo like yours... I'm self-taught (still so much to learn) and I've never watched another artist paint in person. I think it would help one understand the basics and the reasons why an artists does what they do in their paintings. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I agree with you Lana, it is very helpful to watch a demonstration...even though everyone does paint differently. The gallery might have it on video, I will check. Thanks for looking, April and Lana. Kay
