Dragonfly Dreams

Dragonfly Dreams
30" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This abstract evolved after going through several different stages. When I first started this painting, I though I wanted to paint an abstract. Then at one point it was going to be a horizon series painting. You can see where the horizon line is...and then after putting some color on the the canvas, I saw a dragonfly and proceeded to incorporate that image along with some geometric shapes, lines and texture. I used brushes, palette knives and oil sticks on this painting. I like the shape and size of the canvas...thanks for viewing this blog! Have a great day on this Memorial Day. I will be in the studio painting away!

Spring is here....

Sure signs of spring are here...livestock in Illinois....grazing cattle. John and I just returned from a week of visiting family in the midwest. I got plenty of new painting material and inspiration.
This angus is named Princess, and owners Scott and Diane Bagley were kind enough to let me visit the farm and take pictures.
When we returned home to Dallas, John's sunflower was in full bloom. When this stalk sprouted up about a month ago, I thought it was a weed. There are 16 blooms on this one stalk, and more buds are ready to pop out. It was nice to come home to such a beautiful site. I am hoping to head to the studio today. Thanks for viewing my blog!

A New Life

A New Life

32” X 32” Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! II Corinthians 5:17

This scripture has special meaning for me. When I starting painting, “A New Life” I was thinking that a butterfly was a symbol of new life. Something that is new, fresh, colorful and full of life.

I started painting this butterfly two months ago. At that time, my mother of 83 years was in failing health, and her decline in health was evident. I was painting along, thinking that a butterfly was a beautiful creature, and suddenly I was called away. My mother had passed away. It was expected, but unexpected. It was a sorrowful time for our family.

When I returned to the unfinished canvas, I recalled the memorial service for my mother, and one of the scripture readings was II Corinthians 5:17. I could now go ahead and finish the painting. I needed to put new life and color on the canvas. Knowing that God is with us. I am posting this painting in memory of my mother, Mary Lou and it will be hanging at the RLBC Arts Festival later this week. The show information is below. Happy Mothers Day to all!

This and that on my easel....

This cow was standing in green grass yesterday. I don't care for green paint so I painted it all out....and going for the yellow ocher in the field. My reference photograph was taken in the winter, so I am changing everything up. More tomorrow...
This is a page out of Sharon Hodge's Moleskine for my April (yes, I started it the last day of April). The finished painting was an odd size...6" x 21". I could paint anything, and so I painted one of my favorite things....a nest. Thanks for viewing my blog and the art on my easel. I have some other things going....hope to put the final touches on those paintings. Kay

Still on my easel....

My abstract horizon painting turned into a dragonfly. I was researching dragonflies, and found out that the symbolism for dragonfly is change. How appropriate for this painting...it is changing. I know there is alot of glare on the canvas.....it is very wet. I hope to work on this more tomorrow...
And, since yesterday was the last day of April I decided to START my April Moleskin challenge...I had tucked Sharon's moleskin away, and forgot all about it. I hope it dries quickly....I will put some finishing touches on it today. Thanks for checking out my blog....have a good day. Happy May Day! Kay
