Fly Away Dragon Fly

Fly Away Dragon Fly
48" x 48"
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting has gone through many changes....it is a very large canvas....four feet by four feet. It takes alot of paint to cover it. At one point (several months ago) I thought it was finshed, and was ready to hang. After viewing it for months, I decided that it wasn't finished, and added the dragon fly just this week. There are layers of color, layers of lines, and layers of shapes in this painting. I used a palette knife, wide brush strokes and a oil pastel stick. Thanks for viewing this blog!!! If you are interested in this painting, please contact me. It is going to be entered in a art exhibit this next month. Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com

Koi Pond

Koi Pond
24" x 30"
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This is my first koi painting...I layered and layered the paint on, and had the gold/orange koi way too light. I was happy with the colors in the white/gray koi, but not the golden ones. I enjoyed the first day on this painting, and struggled with the days following. I know the water in the koi pond needs to be greener, but I don't like painting green very well, so I just went with what I wanted on the water. I hope to get some better reference photographs when the sun comes out and it warms up in Dallas. More koi paintings in the future. Today I will hit the studio with some new blank canvas....hoping that my brushes are kind to me. Have a good Monday! Thanks for viewing this blog!

Arboretum Koi

Arboretum Koi
Oil on 18" x 18" Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting is probably going to be at the Arboretum Garden Gallery. It was my second koi painting, and I was very nervous about the green. Since I tend to "over-paint" on green, I was very careful not to get green paint on the fish. The water at the Koi Pond in the Arboretum was very green, even though my eye wanted to paint blue. Thanks for viewing this blog!

Snow in Dallas!

I have been away from blogging for several days...due to the winter wonderland in Dallas. We have had power outages, lots of broken tree branches, and many inconviences because of the snow that fell on Thursday and Friday of last week. Then to top it all off, my computer got sick and I had issues with it. Power has been restored, the snow has melted, and the yard work has begun. And, I think my computer is o.k. after a trip to the computer hospital. I hope to get to the studio today and finish up my koi pond painting. I hope my brushes are kind to me today! It is Fat Tuesday and Karen's Birthday celebration at the studio...it will be good to bet back on track. Thanks for viewing this blog!

Old Friends

Old Friends
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
8" x 24"
Palette Knife Painting
Yesterday was a good day. I had a visit from an old friend at the studio. We had not seen each other in about three years, and prior to that it had been about twenty years since we had caught up with each other. It was so good to see him, even though he had experienced some life-changing events and losses. It was a good opportunity to catch-up and visit. Just like in the above painting. These feathered friends are yacking away, having a heart-to-heart conversation. I had painted this last week, and put the finishing touches on it yesterday. The canvas might appear to be out of balance, but it was my intention to have have the roosters focused on each other. Once this painting is dry it will be hanging at The Dutch Art Gallery.

On the easel...Jackson Huette

Jackson is on a 10" x 10" canvas. I wish I had put him on a larger canvas. This painting has a good start. But it isn't close to being finished. I got alot of paint on him after two days, and then had to let it sit. The nose and eyes need work, and I am not happy with the background. This chocolate lab is still a pup and lives in Ridgefield, CT. The tiny photograph that I am working from doesn't show alot of detail. I hope to get to the studio today and work on him.

Murphy

Murphy
9" x 12"
Oil on Canvas
Murphy is a skinny little dachshund. He was being held in the sunlight when I took a photograph of him. His coat is shiny and has some deep red in it. I need to finish Jackson now that Murphy is signed. Thanks for visiting this blog!

Arboretum in January

Arboretum in January
Oil on 6" x 8" Cotton Panel
Here's another small Arboretum painting that I started while painting plein air...I now have an appreciation for artists who pack up their materials, tromp through the outdoors, set up and paint. It is much easier to paint in the studio with all of the convinces....but, I hope to do some more plein air painting, especially with spring coming soon. Thanks for viewing this blog!

Arboretum Statue

This painting was inspired by a photograph that I took while at the Dallas Arboretum about a week ago. It was a clear, sunny and warm January day. But very few flowers, and not much color to paint from. I was looking up at this statue, and it was striking as it had all the bare tree limbs in the background. This will go to the Arboretum Exhibit this month. I can't wait to get back to the Arboretum and paint en plein air!
